Here Comes J-term!!

Hey everybody!

I hope everyone made it safely back to school! My flight went smoothly- although it took most of my will power to actually leave the 80 degree weather in order to return to the artic tundra that awaited me- and it was only after I landed that I hit a little hitch. Long story short, I drove the totally opposite, wrong direction trying to get back to campus and added an extra three hours to the original one hour drive. My only defense is that I'm a Texas girl trying to fend for myself, amid these strange Iowa cornfields and small towns. I know, it's not a very good defense....

Anyway, on to J-term! ;)

It's a three week long class during January that serves as a great opportunity to try something new! You take the same class everyday; it can be anything from biology to pottery to the origins of hip hop dancing to films in German history to...you get my drift! It can be a time to not only fulfill some credit requirements, but also a time to try something totally new! Plus, starting sophomore year, students may travel abroad on any number of trips around the world. My sister is, as we speak, on a four week trip from Hong Kong to Japan to Australia. How cool is that?!?

I can't wait for that chance! However, I don't want to undermine my awesome experience happening during my own first J-term spent in Decorah. This is a really fun time because all of the freshman are here together. Campus seems quite but not in the freshman dorms!! I know I'll enjoy this time with my friends! We'll never have this chance to be altogther again with so much free time on our hands!

All of my friends and I brought back tons of movies to watch, books to read, and activities we want to try! Yeah, I could be on vacation still, but I'd rather be here (despite the cold!!!) enjoying a special experience only known to other Luther students!

Keep warm and have a great start to your second semester seniors!!! (It's downhill from here!)

"Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power...Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace." ~Ephesians 6: 10, 13-15
