There is only one topic I would like to discuss today. It may not seem very exciting or enthralling for a blog. But it is the only thing shaping my life right now. It's all I can think about...........................The temperature!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
When I was in Texas for winter break, it was 75 degrees Christmas day. A few days later, we hit a record high of 83! It was very difficult for me to board the plane to once again return to this frost bitten land that I consider parallel to a tundra. And now that I'm here, it's even harder to stay!!! When I walked to class this morning it was -22! As in the actual temperature not considering the wind chill factor! I've been in total shock since I returned. It's amazing to see that people can survive in this weather at all- although my mother does keep sending me helpful emails of statistics which claim that in these conditions frost bite is possible after only two minutes. Yes, those words have really comforted my fears about having to walk across campus. Thanks mom.
Originally I planned on camping out in my room and having my roommate bring me food from the caf. But as I sat here before lunch, my tummy rumbling, I decided that half the experience of going to college was trying new things, conquering my fears, and taking on new heights (or temperatures for that matter.) So instead of sulking in the comfort of my heating blanket, I put on my coat, boots, long johns, long sleeve shirt, sweatshirt, socks, extra socks, scarf, mitten, ear warmers (you get the picture!) and I ventured out. I left behind my room and the serenity (and warmth) of Brandt to trek across campus towards the union for a nice hot lunch.
So, having made it back to my room, with a nice full stomach, I can proudly admit that I survived the elements!!!
WARNING: For all of you looking at colleges and considering one in the north, preferably Luther, I have to confess- cold weather isn't for everyone. It's cold. Sometimes depressing. Sometimes it takes a toll on your endurance.
But if I can do it, a lil girl from Dallas, Texas, then honestly, anyone can! When you find a perfect fit like Luther, tough things like subzero temperatures don't faze you as much. Getting to have your perfect college experience makes crazy new obstacles totally worth it.
Wow, I never thought that I could write so much about the weather! Anyway...
Stay warm! Be careful! Don't get frostbite! (My mother is worried for us all!!!!)
And have a great week!

"Therefore I endure everything for the sake of the elect, that they too may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus, with eternal glory. Here is a trustworthy saying: If we die with him, we will also live with him; if we endure, we will also reign with him. If we disown him, he will also disown us; if we are faithless, he will remain faithful, for he cannot disown himself."
